Coverly Life

Privacy policy

Coverly Life collects less than most websites. This explains exactly what, and why.

The short version

We don’t ask for your name, email address, phone number or any health information, and we don’t store any. Our eligibility check asks three questions whose answers don’t identify you. What we do collect is technical information about your visit, so that we can tell which of our advertisements are working.

What we collect

  • Your answers to the eligibility check — age range, residency, and the cover amount you’re interested in. On their own, these don’t identify anyone.
  • Your IP address and browser user agent, captured when you’re referred to Golden Insurance.
  • Advertising identifiers and cookies — including Meta’s _fbp and _fbc cookies and click identifiers from Meta and TikTok, where present.
  • How you arrived — the advertisement, campaign and referring page.

Why we collect it

Almost entirely to measure advertising. When Golden Insurance tells us that a referral resulted in a policy, we match it back to the visit that produced it and report that to the advertising platform, so the platform can show our ads to more people like you and fewer to people who aren’t interested. Without it we would be advertising blind.

We also use it to detect fraudulent or automated traffic, and to understand which parts of the check people abandon.

Who we share it with

We share advertising identifiers and technical information with Meta Platforms and TikTok to measure the advertising described above, and with Google Analytics for website statistics. These organisations are based outside Australia, principally in the United States, so your information is disclosed overseas.

We do not sell your information, and we don’t share it with any other insurer, broker or lead buyer.

When you’re referred to Golden Insurance, anything you enter on their website is collected by them under their own privacy policy, not ours. We never see it.

Where your information goes overseas

Coverly Life is operated from the United States, so the technical information described above is held and handled outside Australia as a matter of course, not only when it is shared. Our website hosting and database providers are also United States companies.

Meta Platforms, TikTok and Google are likewise based outside Australia, principally in the United States. We take reasonable steps to satisfy ourselves that these recipients handle information consistently with the Australian Privacy Principles, but once information is held overseas it is also subject to the laws of that country, and Australian privacy law may not be enforceable against a foreign recipient in the same way.

If you would prefer your information not to be disclosed overseas, the practical answer is not to use the eligibility check — there is no version of this site that measures advertising without it.

How long we keep it

Records of visits that didn’t result in a referral are deleted after 180 days. For visits that did, we remove the IP address, user agent and advertising identifiers after 180 days and keep only the commercial record.

Cookies, and how to opt out

You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and you can limit advertising tracking in your Meta ad preferences and TikTok privacy settings. The eligibility check works either way — none of this is required to use the site.

How we protect it

The strongest protection here is how little there is to protect. We hold no name, email address, phone number or health information, so a breach of our records could not reveal who you are or what you asked about.

Beyond that: the site is served over an encrypted connection, our records are held in a managed database that is not reachable from the public internet, and the credentials that can read it exist only on our servers and never in your browser. Identifiers are removed after 180 days, so the window in which there is anything worth taking is limited by design.

No system is completely secure, and we would rather say so than imply otherwise.

Access, correction and complaints

You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, or ask us to delete it. Because we hold no name or contact details, we may need the approximate date and time of your visit to find the record.

If you’re not satisfied with how we’ve handled a privacy matter, you can complain to the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner at oaic.gov.au.
